I received two scams in the last 24 hours that were slick. One was a speaking invitation from England and the other notification of an inheritance of a dead relative. Both sounded appealing and were well written and almost believable. What if one day I really miss my millions and refuse a trip to the British Isles because I am suspicious? That would be the worst scam of all! So, how do you balance trust and discernment?

Blind trust almost sounds like an oxymoron. How can you trust something you cannot see? We do it all the time. I often fly for different speaking engagements and I have never seen which one is the real pilot sitting in the cockpit, not to mention his map. I called a computer tech last week and he asked if he could tandem with my personal computer to find out my problem. Without seeing him, I trusted him with all my files as he manipulated my screen and settings and within minutes he had the problem solved. I enjoyed a wonderful steak the other evening but I never laid eyes on the chef, nor watched if he had washed his hands before touching my food.  We turned over our car to the valet at the symphony one night not knowing if he even had a driving license. How many doctors have you visited without seeing their certificates, not to mention their grades from medical school?

Why is it hard to trust God whom you have never seen either?  Think about it… We all have a level of trust but it is ever so selective.  I cannot help but wonder if trusting God is about much more than not seeing Him.  Some struggle with giving up their independence. Funny! Where do they get their breath and who monitors their every heartbeat? Perhaps, it is about looking weak, yet  He promised that “Greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world.” To some, God is irrelevant yet they cry out to Him when they are near death or about to have an accident. And, many believe God does not exist. Really! Can the world be that blind? All of creation cries out that there is a divine Architect, Designer and Giver of Life who has done more than any eye can see. “Blind trust” is about seeing what most overlook. Decide to trust in what has been proven, tried and tested through the Ages. You can trust in God. He is not going anywhere.

When you choose to look past the horizon… the sky is the limit!
