“Low I am with you always.” is what Jesus promised. This is not literal, I hope, since I fly all the time. These past few years have been constant traveling due to speaking engagements nation wide. I love what I get to do!
This past year I found myself rating the music in airports. Did you ever notice?
For example, DFW plays music that has an international flavor where it is impossible to hum along. In comparison, the Atlanta airport makes you want to sing the moment you step into the terminal. It is great songs from the 70’s and could be the sounds of Detroit’s Motown. Speaking of… Why does the Detroit airport exhibit that fantastic light show with psychedelic music when they could be playing the Supremes and Stevie Wonder?
St. Louis offers more a jazz sound with big bands and this too is a favorite of mine. At Orlando’s terminal, they offered the pre-show for those headed to Disney’s endless entertainment.
One airport had a saxophonist greeting us with sounds of New Orleans. If you had the blues from your small package of nuts from the plane, your blues were swept away by the sounds that reverberated in the halls of the airport. Nashville’s spill over talent greets you with great guitarists while in Vegas the only sounds are slot machines in the airport hallways.
One holiday, live carolers entertained the long lines at the airport with people coming and going. I guess the frustrations of delays and holiday anxieties were unwrapped by the sounds of want to-a-be stars. Personally, it sent me over the edge and I longed to hear the elevator music.
Take time to listen the next time you are flying.
