Famous Archer, Author of Seeing Beyond, Khatuna LorigI love the imagery from Psalms 127:3-4, “Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, The fruit of the womb is a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, So are the children of one’s youth.  To me it paints a vivid picture of our parental responsibility and the incredible potential of our legacy.

There are three main parts to any arrow: the point, shaft and fletching. Consider this…

  • The arrow must be sharpened. Any teaching and training is essential for sharpening arrows. Education alone does not complete the task. Character building, community service and valuing people are just a few of the many additions beyond mere academics. Sharpening your skills, including communication and discernment, are important in leadership.
  • Straightening the shaft speaks of increased training and straightening out wrong attitudes, philosophies and shifting opinions strengthened with truth and love. Bent bows are worthless. Breaking the spirit of our children will not allow them to soar in the days to come. Coming along side of them with words of affirmation and casting a vision for their value and His purposes can only help them shoot straight.
  • The fletching is essential and must be angled precisely otherwise the arrows fly in circles. Aimless living is mere existence. It is falling short of living on purpose, with purpose for His purposes. Fletching that is set upright will help you course correct as well.

Everyone has tension in their life, especially when you are training children. Only the Great Archer can take the tension in our lives and households and use it redemptively as he places our arrows into His bow, hitting the mark each and every time. His bull’s eye will impact others beyond what your eyes can see. Trust Him with your arrows that are still being developed. Before you can even blink, suddenly, our young arrows take flight. The great surprise comes as He draws from your quiver for His specific plan.

Our two youngest are proof of that as they are swiftly taking flight, literally. Our daughter, 18, is moving to Germany to work with YWAM (Youth with a Mission). Our son, 16, was dropped off at the airport to meet up with 300 others as they fly to New York City for a week of concerts and working with children. Our children will do greater things than we ever dared. Our responsibility as parents is to prepare them to take flight, knowing He has a divine goal in mind, beyond the horizon where the sky is the limit…

Are you preparing your arrows to soar?

When you choose to look past the horizon… the sky is the limit!
