I had the honor of being asked to speak for Jack Hayford’s National Conference held in Atlanta, Georgia a few years ago. Pastors and spiritual leaders met from around the nation to be inspired and gain new direction for the coming year. Among the heavy hitters on the program were two of my favorites—Jack Hayford from Van Nuys, California and John Maxwell, the motivator of leaders worldwide.
I had hoped for some personal time with my two heroes but the crowded halls and busy schedules of the conference seemed to deny me my heart’s desire. However, one morning I was positioned in the green room before my speaking assignment. John and Jack were engaged in a conversation across the room. I debated about interrupting old friends as they encouraged each other in their specific roles, yet my heart nudged me to walk across the room and introduce myself. Pastor Jack remembered me from conventions before and he was most gracious as he hugged me. He then introduced me to John. I quickly told Mr. Maxwell that I had gradually lost my eyesight having our children, but I remained a woman of vision. I quickly went on to say how I appreciated his leadership vision and insights. I also stated, “John, I will be your best friend.” to which he seemed surprised. I explained by saying, “John, you look better than I have ever seen you before. Your hair is awesome, your weight loss flattering and you look buff to me.”
Both gentlemen began to laugh as John hugged me. After chatting some more, the heroes I admired had quickly become my friends. John Maxwell coined me with a title that I now wear with honor. He said, “Gail. You are an Ambassador of Hope.”
I might have been blind to some details but I could see perfectly that God had given me my heart’s desire as I talked that morning with two Generals of faith and declarated leaders. They both prayed for me that I would lead others with my message of hope and vision in the days to come with the open doors He, alone, would give. Dear John and Jack, I am doing just that as I carry out my assignment as an “Ambassador of Hope.” After all, hope always sees!
What ambassador are you and what message do you carry to others?
