Gail McWilliams and Ray ComfortHave you ever heard of a short man who is the tallest guy I know from Down Under, named Ray Comfort? Years ago, I was introduced to a powerful presentation called, “The 10 Cannons of God’s Law,” by Ray Comfort. From that time I have been his avid fan. The man makes me think, laugh and want to follow Christ more vibrantly. He is tenacious as a pit bull and loaded with questions for people walking down any given street. He has combined his efforts over the past seasons with the actor Kirk Cameron in their own television show called, “The Way of the Master.” Ray’s newest creation is called, “180,” and it is a poignant documentary as he relates Hitler’s murder frenzy of the Holocaust to today’s choices.

A few years ago I met Ray in person while attending a dinner with Governor Perry in Houston at the  Reliant for the “Response.” When we first met and he heard our story, he impulsively took my hand and rubbed it along his mustache, not wanting me to miss the fact he could grow facial hair. As a side note, just tell me about you and don’t make me feel your body parts, please!  I do not need the extra effects and thrill.

No matter my preference as to where my hands are placed, I laughed with him as we got our picture taken together.

This fall, I was a guest at a large event in Dallas where Ray was the speaker. I waited in line to talk with him, and when he saw me he grabbed me and gave me a big hug.  I reminded him of our first meeting, and he remembered it well. He once again grabbed my hand and said, “You have to feel my face. I now have a beard.”

Once more we got a picture together. After the camera shot, I turned to my New Zealand friend and, with a chuckle, asked, “Were you just standing on your tippy-toes for the picture?” He began to laugh and said, “How did you know?” I quickly replied, “Do you think I am blind?” Laughing, he took me to his assistant and said, “This woman sees everything.”

Well, Ray, one thing I see is you are the real deal! Your love for Christ, life and people is amazing. Your humor, experiences and boldness for living life large impacts eternity–and that matters more to me than how you look or what you have grown on your face.  I look forward to your new project on John Lennon.

From someone Down Under—you always put me on top of the world.

When you choose to look past the horizon… the sky is the limit!
