leadership and communication skillsMight As Well Be You!

I grew up with a line frequently said by my dad. He would often say, “When you look around a room full of people, you know that someone is going to lead. “ He would pause, and then say, “It might as well be you.”

The verdict is still out to see if those words groomed me to be the leader I have become, or if it confirmed the DNA and personality I was given from birth.

Leadership was modeled in our home,  and it never seemed optional to me. I hear this question often, “Are you born a leader or trained a leader?” I think it is irrelevant. Everyone leads. The question is what kind of leader are you?

You can use your influence, skills and imagination to lead and impact your world for good, or lead others into ruin and wrong choices. Discerning what leader you will follow is also of the utmost importance.

  • Some leaders are naturally gifted.
  • Some leaders are leading by default.
  • Some leaders find value in their title only.
  • Some lead because they want to serve
  • Some lead because no one else will.
  • Some lead because they are forced.
  • Some lead because they are visionaries and compensation makes no difference
  • Some lead only if paid.
  • Some lead, aware that they model leadership to the next generation.
  • Some lead the wrong way, with no regard to the consequences.
  • Some lead the right way, no matter the cost

I love motivating leaders. Helping them with leadership and communication skills is personally rewarding. Leaders should be visionary and influential. Encouraging these generals on the front lines of life is my joy.  No matter if you are an executive leader at your company, community, your home or church—lead on purpose with purpose.

The requirements of a leader are high but the rewards are immeasurable. If everyone is a leader, then qualify yourself to be a good one. Work on developing your leadership, communication and people skills. I leadership and communication skillswill address more in the days to come.  When booked to do an event as a speaker on leadership, it is an honor.  I know it is essential to succeed in training leaders because of the importance of the impact on who is following.  If you will follow my lead in the blogs to come, perhaps your eyes will be opened to see there is more to leadership than you could see.  In the meantime, candidly, which kind of leader are you from the above list? What two new skills would you like to focus on in the coming days?
